Where do I start? Well, let&#39;s try it like this: As you might know, I studied business administration some years ago and since then I&#39;m working as a controller / financial accountant for industry companies. Pretty boring job, you might say. Well, actually it is. But, that was the one life. You might also have noticed that I&#39;m very passionated about photography since a few years. I spend almost&nbsp;every free minute&nbsp;in taking, processing, sharing and selling photos and&nbsp;learning everything about photography. Often I even sleep too less. That is my other life. During the last months I got really unhappy with my regular job (in general, this had nothing to do with the company I was working for) and&nbsp;I realized that business administration isn&#39;t the thing I want to do for life and for a living. The wish to live out my passion for photography and&nbsp;for beeing a better photographer and maybe for beeing a professional photographer grew stronger every day. </div> <div>A few weeks ago I resigned my job and yesterday I had my last day as a controller. From April on I will only live one life. Horray!! :) Maybe I get more sleep then. Or less than ever! :o</div> <div>I know that hard times will come and that it will take some time to gain a foothold in the photography business. But I want it. And I will make it. For a start I&#39;m going to work as a self-employed photographer. In summer I&#39;ll start working in a studio for advertising photography and will do a photographer internship. That&#39;s it.<br /> <br /> More news? OK. I&#39;m in negotiation with a local art gallery that wants to print and sell my photos online and offline. I&#39;ll give you more infos when I made the deal.<br /> <br /> Even more news? My personal website <a href="http.pabst-photo.de" target="_blank">http://pabst-photo.de</a> is back online with a new layout (wordpress).<br /> </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Well, that will do. Thank you for your attention. Since then I reviewed it a hundred times trying to decide whether it is a good photo and worth to show or whether I should better delete it. The item I wasn&#39;t sure about is the huge rock in the center of the picture which dominates the whole composition. Positioning such a huge object in the center of a picture is far away from all classic composing rules. But, I&#39;m now sure that this is acceptable in this case because the photo tells a story. For me it&#39;s about transitoriness. Think about all the elements surrounding the rock: the stairs (symbolizing human beings), the water, the plants. Everything exists just a short moment compared to the life-time of the rock. Maybe the people forget this path one day, maybe the small creek dries out and the plants die off (because of global warming?). Maybe some day the rock will be naked and bleak and all life around it will be gone. But, the huge rock will always be there. It will always dominate this scene.<br />Maybe this is a little bit too philosophic but that&#39;s just me ...<br />&nbsp;<br />I wish you some joyous X-mas days with your family and your friends. But I think a first attmept hasn&#39;t to be 100%&nbsp;perfect. </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Thanks again, Mari and Tobi!</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>And thank&nbsp;YOU for leaving some critical words. </div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Model: Mari - <a href="http://www.model-kartei.de/sedcard/modell/31469/">http://www.model-kartei.de/sedcard/modell/31469/&nbsp;</a></div> http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/welcome-to-the-real-world welcome to the real world http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/welcome-to-the-real-world Tue, 20 Nov 2007 16:28:28 -0800 Landscapes & Nature b&w beech black buchen forest germany reality schauinsland schwarzwald snow trees winter <div>I hope one more&nbsp;image of these beautiful beech trees is OK for you. Also found&nbsp;a little&nbsp;time to write down some thoughts in my humble English. Please excuse this.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>First of all: this is not taken with an IR filter (infrared). The white parts are snow.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Well, I really love the two previous images&nbsp;&quot;reloaded&quot; and &quot;the beech tree&quot;&nbsp;because they are&nbsp;&nbsp;very very close to&nbsp;what I had seen through the viewfinder. The colors and the dynamic ranges are very close to reality and I only did some basic processing. Which is good.&nbsp;I&#39;m very proud of it because it shows me that&nbsp;a heavy treatment isn&#39;t&nbsp;absolutely necessary to create a good image. I&#39;m pretty sure these pictures&nbsp;wouldn&#39;t look very different when taken on film. </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Nevertheless I&nbsp;have to admit that&nbsp;I like this 3rd image the most. The b&amp;w conversion and&nbsp;a few steps of processing&nbsp;give it a surreal look and separate it from the &quot;normal&quot; images&nbsp;(in my eyes). And this is one of the most important intentions&nbsp;why I&#39;m into photography since two years:&nbsp;I&nbsp;try to&nbsp;show&nbsp;other people&nbsp;how the&nbsp;world&nbsp;looks&nbsp; like through my eyes, in my fantasy, in my mind. And&nbsp;I really love&nbsp;this&nbsp;world. </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>But wait! What if this &quot;processed world&quot; is the real world and what we all see every day through our blinded eyes&nbsp;isn&#39;t real?? Which world would you prefer? Real or unreal?&nbsp;&nbsp;Blue or&nbsp;red pill? ;-)<br /> </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Thank you for your attention. I&#39;m back from Northern Germany. B and me really enjoyed our&nbsp;one week&nbsp;vacation in Hamburg and in North Frisia though it was really short for German proportions. Actually the German average citizen (like me?) is used to spend his vacation for 2 or 3 weeks. :) Anyway, we had a good time, especially at the North Sea. We traveled around a lot, visited 2 islands (Amrum and Sylt)&nbsp;by ship, walked over the tideland to a&nbsp;holm (&quot;Hallig Suedfall&quot;, will tell something about that later) and enjoyed the northern flair. What I liked the most was the low (human) population density.&nbsp; When you&nbsp;walk along the coast or drive through the back-country you meet just&nbsp;a handful of people (but therefor thousands of sheeps and cows. LOL). It&#39;s all so quiet and peaceful up there. No stress, no noise (except the wind), no hectic urban life ... I love it. I can image this for a new home one day. </div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>As you might guess I took &quot;a few&quot; photos and I&#39;m going to show you some within the next days/weeks. I ordered a large print on canvas last friday at a local photo shop. I&#39;m really curious what it will look like. http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070605 the pool http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070605 Tue, 5 Jun 2007 17:39:51 -0800 Waterfalls .... if only the water wasn&#39;t so cold.<br /> <br /> Took this some days ago in the Black Forest. Had to take 5 single shots and process them with Photomatix. The dynamic range was just to high here for a single (well exposed) shot. The difficult parts were the left dark side, the flowing water and the white clouds in the sky. In a single shot either the left side in the shadow is to dark and the sky and the water well exposed or the shadow parts are well exposed and the sky and the water overexposed. So it&#39;s a classic situation for a HDR image. I&#39;m pretty satisfied with the result. What do you think?<br /> http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070603 ... and I sit and watch the clouds as they go by http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070603 Sun, 3 Jun 2007 18:55:28 -0800 Landscapes & Nature 125 sec. long exposure. http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070528 solitary http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070528 Mon, 28 May 2007 16:14:34 -0800 Landscapes & Nature http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070522 for the small prayers ... http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070522 Tue, 22 May 2007 20:48:49 -0800 Landscapes & Nature ... a small chapel. http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070520 a place to relax http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070520 Sun, 20 May 2007 18:33:11 -0800 Waterfalls I found a nice place yesterday. It&#39;s a small valley which is surrounded by huge rocks and where two creeks flow into each other. I climbed down there, put my shoes off, sat down on the warm rocks, hung my feet into the (damn cold) water and relaxed. Such a nice place ... I&#39; m sure I&#39;ll visit it again soon.<br /><br />Hope you had a nice weekend, too. :) http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070519 coming down to earth http://www.pabst-photo.com/entry/20070519 Sat, 19 May 2007 07:15:55 -0800 Waterfalls This is a part of the Gertelbach waterfalls located in the northern Black Forest.
